Your answer to “What do you do?” may depend on who is asking. A job title is only one part of the answer when you also make things, write, teach, volunteer, or run a project of your own.
Give people the short version
Start with a few sentences about the parts of your life you want to share. You do not need to force everything under one job title. The point is to help a new visitor understand how the pieces fit together.
You might mention your main work first, then a side project, regular writing, or an interest that matters to you. Leave out anything you would rather keep separate.
Make the next click an easy choice
A row of unfamiliar icons makes people guess. Give each part of the page enough context for someone to know why they might open it.
- Group related work in the same section.
- Use a clear name for each project or account.
- Add a sentence when the title alone does not explain it.
- Put the things you share most often near the top.
Keep the original work where it belongs
Your photographs can stay on the photography site. Your code can stay on GitHub. Your articles and videos can stay where you published them. The profile simply gives people a useful route to each one.
Share one address in different places
Put yourname.getmyidentity.com in a social bio, email signature, event listing, or message. Someone interested in your day job may choose one link, while someone who met you through a side project may choose another.
As your interests change, update the page rather than replacing the address everywhere you have shared it.
